Im glad you’re feeling a bit brighter through May! I’m definitely going to check out Tiers movies and also thanks for recommending a good lightweight camera, I have a recent iPhone pro and I just CANNOT get my photos to look the way they did on my older models which is bonkers!
Thank you so much, Helen ❤️ I’d love to hear what you think if you end up watching any of Trier’s films. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
Oh no, that’s such a shame about the iPhone camera. The newer models tempted me because everyone talks about the camera upgrades, but now I might hold off even longer, especially now that I’ve got this little camera
Ooooh, I enjoyed this one so much! I think when it comes to these moments between spring and summer, I can relate to the feelings you had. And I also got back to my healthier sleep routine. But somehow, insomnia was hitting me, and it created a little chaos by the end of May, so I'm working on going back to normal! I used to do that list of 3 priorities, I might give it another go!
I love the idea of your June travel. I hope you have a wonderful time! Also, that movie rec was amazing, might watch it this very upcoming week! :) Now, onto reading your may bookmarks! haha xx
Thank you so much! ❤️ It's crazy how much difference a proper sleep routine can make. I really hope the insomnia settles down soon. I wonder if the warmer weather and longer evenings are playing a part too? Fingers crossed you find your rhythm again soon.
And if you end up watching the film, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Wishing you a lovely June xx
I feel you on carrying a bulky camera. I sold my big Canon because of that. It was just sitting in a corner, and I didn't even take it on my trips to the UK and Japan. Weird because that was the whole point haha.
I googled the Nikon Coolpix AW100, and damn, what a lovely camera. I had a Coolpix something back in 2004, and it was decent. Since then, I have never looked at the brand. I might add this to my wishlist, but I guess I'll have a hard time finding it, haha.
Do you usually take all the pictures in your posts with a camera?
I hope you have a wonderful trip with your mum, and I can't wait to see what you share about it.
I look forward to having a short trip somewhere with my fiancé this summer. I was planning on not having a book project this summer, but an opportunity arose, and I signed a new contract with a publisher. So I will be busy during my whole trip but life... :)
I completely get that! My Canon spent at least 5 years sitting in a cupboard before I took it out on a walk last autumn. It felt so good to be taking photos again, properly thinking about composition and light rather than just snapping something on my phone. I still love it and will definitely keep using it, but I have to consciously decide to bring it because it's quite bulky. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't properly capture all the little moments on my commute or while I was out and about. The Nikon is so small that it just comes everywhere with me, and honestly, it's brought me an unreasonable amount of joy this past month <3
I also had a little Coolpix in the early 2000s. I asked my mom if she still had it, but sadly not. So I ended up setting alerts on MPB and checking eBay regularly. I've bought a few cameras through eBay over the years and have been lucky so far, so I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye on both!
I'd say around 70% of the photos in my posts are taken with a camera, and the rest are still from my iPhone :)
Massive congratulations on the new project and contract! That's so exciting. I hope you'll still be able to carve out some time to properly enjoy your trip and find a balance between the project and the holiday xx
I really love the dreamy vibe of your photos, and I always thought it was because of filters or something. Maybe you were using a different camera, but somehow I assumed you were using your phone the whole time. I've added that camera to my list. I'm definitely getting it this year!! Thank you for the inspiration and recommendations!
I can't wait to see your Scotland photos! The landscapes will look so different through your lens, so it's something really exciting to look forward to!!!
Thank you for the well wishes! I hope I'll be able to do both.
Thanks so much! :) With my Canon, I usually do a bit of editing afterwards, but with the Nikon, I don't feel the need to do anything. There’s something about the colours straight out of the camera that I really love.
I'm very excited to take it around Scotland too, now I just need the weather to cooperate 🤞
My favorite read on a Sunday! Thank you for getting « vulnerable » with us. I’m also curious on how you integrate Substack on your routine. I sometimes struggle with that!
I think May is such a nice month, helping us settle to a slower life where everything seem to go how it suppose to (the sun might also help ha!)
I loooove Joachim Trier and TWPITW and Sentimental Value are my absolute favorite. I didn’t see his others movies so I’ll be looking if there are some recs!
Honestly, there are periods where I feel really on top of Substack and others where I struggle to juggle it alongside everything else. What I’m trying to work on at the moment is being a bit gentler with myself when I miss a post or don’t stick to the schedule I’ve created. At the end of the day, nobody is imposing it on me, and I want this to remain something fulfilling rather than something that feels like an obligation. Easier said than done though!
May really is such a lovely month! The sunshine definitely deserves some credit :)
I think I’ll watch anything Joachim Trier makes at this point. I felt weirdly seen in both films, and visually they were just so beautiful too. The way the house almost became a character in Sentimental Value, and the structure of The Worst Person in the World. It all felt simple, yet masterfully done.
Wishing you a lovely June, with plenty of sunshine and hopefully a little extra time to write xx
Taking a few days off without any plans can feel so good! Just an extra day where you can do non-work things, it always creates a bit more space in my mind.
The courses you are doing sound interesting and I think it must be nice to learn something new because you want to, not because you have to 😊
And an iPhone 12 reaching his storage limit sounds oddly familiar 😂
It’s exactly that. Just having one or two days with no obligations creates so much space in my head and opens up so many possibilities. There's no pressure to accomplish anything. Whatever happens, or doesn't, is fine. I’m thinking of making it a monthly thing :)
I’ve been loving learning new things here and there with those courses. Part of me wishes I’d known these paths were even an option before uni, but then again, maybe I wouldn’t enjoy them as much if I had to study them. There’s something nice about learning purely because I want to <3
And hahaha yes, the iPhone storage struggle is very real. I delete things constantly and somehow it’s still full 😂
I really loved the method you used for listing your tasks. I honestly can’t wait to start applying it myself. May seems to have been calm and peaceful for you, and I’m really happy about that. I’ve finally started reading Kawakami’s novel as well. I can’t wait to see the amazing photos you’ll take during your trip to Scotland. And I should also add that I’ve missed your YouTube vlogs. 🩷
It’s such a simple method, but it has really improved my focus. It also stops me from convincing myself that every task is equally urgent when some things can absolutely wait. So I truly hope it can help you too <3
I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on Sisters in Yellow once you finish it!
I do miss vlogging sometimes, but I think I fell a bit out of love with it. The passion just wasn’t there anymore, and I don’t really have the time or energy for it at the moment. Who knows what the future holds though. Thank you so much as always xx

Thank you so much, that means a lot <3
